Presenter
Diane Shannon, MD, MPH, PCC

Dr. Diane Shannon was inspired to become a clinician by her mother, Edie Wonnell, a certified nurse midwife who founded two independent birth centers in the early 1980s. However, after experiencing burnout as a young primary care physician, Diane left practice to pursue a career in writing. Her focus for 25 years has been drawing attention to ways to address clinician burnout, system inefficiency, and patient safety problems. She is co-author of the well-received book, Preventing Physician Burnout: Curing the Chaos and Returning Joy to the Practice of Medicine.
Diane’s personal experience with burnout and her desire to support clinicians motivated her to become a certified coach in 2019. She has helped hundreds of clinicians improve their work-life balance, address imposter syndrome and self-doubt, and build careers that are satisfying and sustainable. Her podcast, Vital Signs: Thriving as a Woman in Medicine, launched in January 2024. In addition, she continues to advocate for clinician wellness through writing and speaking.
