AABC Seeks Consultant Subject Matter Experts for TMaH

The American Association of Birth Centers is developing a roster of consultant Subject Matter Experts (SME) from within the AABC community that will be able to provide technical assistance to states participating in the CMS Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) grant program. SMEs who do provide technical assistance will be compensated for their time as independent contractors.

About CMS TMaH

The CMS TMaH Initiative is a new 10-year payment and care-delivery model that will support participating state Medicaid agencies (SMAs) in developing and implementing a whole-person approach to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care for pregnant people with Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage. States participating in the TMaH Model will increase access to a variety of maternal health providers, such as midwives, freestanding birth centers, and doula services. CMS will award grants to 15 states. Award announcements are expected by the end of year.

AABC SME Consultants

As an AABC SME consultant, you could play a vital role in supporting state Medicaid agencies in the development and implementation of this transformative model. We are looking for people with expertise in the following areas:

  • birth center and/or midwifery regulations/licensure/CON - laws and rules
  • midwifery model of care
  • access to care
  • health equity/birth justice
  • payment/reimbursement (including fee for service, value-based)
  • clinical risk profiles and clinical standards
  • PDR/outcome data
  • interoperability and integration
  • collaborative care
  • alongside midwifery units
