AABC Calls for Sustainable Reimbursement

Posted By: Kate Bauer AABC News Release,

The United States continues facing a devastating maternal health crisis, ranking 67th globally in maternal mortality and 54th in neonatal mortality. This means that we rank lower than all developed countries in the world. Moreover, the United States ranks lower in maternal mortality than 33 underfunded and underdeveloped countries and lower than 20underdeveloped countries in neonatal mortality across the globe.

As such, the American Association of Birth Centers (AABC) calls for the recognition and sustainable reimbursement of midwifery-led birth center care. Evidence supports that midwives are critical to improving perinatal outcomes, yet they remain underutilized due to systemic reimbursement barriers. We assert that equitable reimbursement for midwifery services and birth centers is essential to reduce disparities, enhance maternal and neonatal health, and ensure all families receive the highest standard of care.

We invite all who support AABC's Position Statement "Sustainable Reimbursement for Midwifery-Led Birth Centers" to sign-on to  give your endorsement.
